Metal Testing Kit

These usually come in the form of a liquid acid. The typical kit will have 5-10 bottles of testing acid depending on what metals the kit is designed to test.

The kit should also have a rub stone for testing the metal. What you do is transfer some of the metal onto the rub stone by moving it vigorously on the flat stone. This leaves a small amount of metal on the stone and it also makes a mark on the item being tested.

Beware of the rubbing location on the item being tested. It is extremely easy to remove intricate details when transferring the metal to the rubbing stone.

Also, do not put the acid directly on the item being tested. This is some bad stuff and should be handled with care at all times. Proper PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) should be used when testing with acids. And, if you ruin your wife’s new kitchen table don’t blame me! LOL!

The metal testing kit should have come with a set of instructions for testing each kind of metal.
